Yellow Methi Dal (Fenugreek Leaves Lentils Soup) - Healthy and easy recipe for Kids and family



Yellow methi dal is a delicious Indian lentil dish made with yellow lentils (usually moong dal) and fenugreek leaves (methi). It is a popular recipe in North Indian cuisine and is known for its aromatic flavors and health benefits

  • 1 cup toor dal

  • Hand full of methi leaves

  • Turmeric

  • Salt

    For seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or ghee

  • 1 teaspoon urad dal

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard

  • 5-6 curry leaves

  • 1 red chilli

  • 5-6 garlic

  • 2 green chili

  • 1 onion

  • 2 tomatoes


  • Wash the Methi leave thoroughly with water and salt.

  • Take the soaked toor dal in a pressure cooker and add the finely chopped Methi leaves.

  • Add turmeric and salt , Close the lid and cook the dal for 2 whistles in medium flame.

  • Take another pan, add oil once it is hot add Mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, red chilli and then add garlic cloves

  • Let it fry for few seconds and then add green chilli and chopped onion.

  • Once it becomes crisp add tomatoes and let cook for few minutes.

  • Once the tomatoes become soft add the above dal mixture let boil for 2 minutes.

  • Hot Methi Dal serve with Rice or Roti.
