Palak Dal (Spinach Lentil Soup) - Healthy and easy recipe for Kids and family



Lentil and vegetables are not only good for health even it gives balance to your diet. This is a great way to get your greens and protein. It is an easy, healthy and flavorful dal made with palak and toor dal


  • 1 cup toor dal

  • Hand full of palak leaves

  • Turmeric

  • Salt


  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or ghee

  • 1 teaspoon urad dal

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard

  • 5-6 curry leaves

  • 1 red chilli

  • 5-6 garlic

  • 2 green chili

  • 1 onion

  • 2 tomatoes


  • Wash the Palak leaves thoroughly with water and salt.

  • Take the soaked toor dal in a pressure cooker and add the finely chopped Palak leaves.

  • Add turmeric and salt ,close the lid and cook the dal for 2 whistles in medium flame.

  • Take another pan, add oil once it is hot add Mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, red chilli and then add garlic cloves

  • Let it fry for few seconds and then add green chilli and chopped onion.

  • Once it becomes crisp add tomatoes and let cook for few minutes.

  • Once the tomatoes become soft add the above dal mixture let boil for 2 minutes.

  • Hot Palak Dal serve with Rice or Roti.
